I had a dream I overslept

Woke up, checked the clock and was relieved that I still had another two hours of snoozing left. Then I did oversleep because I learned the hard way found out this morning my alarm clock is broken. On a Monday, no less.

Hmmm, sometimes dreams really do come true.

Irish Eyes Aren't Always Smiling

Last night I had a dream about a guy I dated several years ago (obviously). He not only broke my heart but he ripped it out, stomped on it and made it hard for awhile. He was a widower with two children, two jobs and--I later found out--two other girlfriends. That news really threw me considering we saw each other about four times a week and he worked at least two other nights. How he juggled the three of us is still something I can't figure out.

He's an Irish guy who I met while in an Irish bar. My friends loved him and I did, too. In hindsight there were things I should have questioned. Once I was home with his daughter while he and his son were at a baseball game. His ex-girlfriend who I found out wasn't really a former girlfriend at all called. When I asked Boyfriend why she would call, he said that she got close to the kids while they dated and sometimes she watched the children (mind you, she never watched them when we went out). One night another woman unexpectedly stopped by and seemed very shocked to see Boyfriend, two children and me eating dinner together and nervously mumbled something about his son's school. Later I asked Boyfriend why she stopped by and he said that their children attended school together and that she's a little over-protective. Okay, so maybe I was just blind or stupid but it didn't occur to me that he was having relationships with these twowomen.

He broke up with me while we were away on a short trip together. It's fun to fly home with someone you're no longer seeing (where's that sarcasm font?). When I arrived home, I called a friend and she asked if we got engaged while we were away and I had to tell her a few times that we broke up. She didn't believe me so I finally said, "Listen, I was in the room, I know what happened--he dumped me." I was devastated. For a time I was upset about all things Irish: my last name, U2, Van Morrison, good beer, Notre Dame, etc.

So...in my dream I'm in an Irish bar and Boyfriend came up the steps behind me. Someone bought two rounds for the bar so I had two glasses of wine in front of me (but I guess because it's an Irish bar I had two pint glasses filled with wine! Yowza...). We chatted. I asked about his kids. Oddly enough, even in dreamland I did the math correctly and realized his son is now 22 and daughter is 20. He told me his son has four daughters and the whole gang is now living in the states (he had moved back to Ireland). It was a rather long conversation (for dreamtime) and I think I met a new girlfriend/wife but he never introduced us (even in my sleep he doesn't mention women in his life!) and shushed her when she tried to join in the conversation. While we were talking I was thinking he hasn't inquired at all about my life and it's been more than 13 years since we've seen each other...but then it occurred to me he never really was interested in me, was he?

As I reached for my pint o'wine, I noticed there was a snake in the glass and woke up as the snake was hissing at me. My first thought this morning was "yes, Boyfriend was a snake" and was very happy to see Donnie at my side.

Random Tuesday Thoughts

The other night I had a dream that you could view your past dreams on youtube. The dream was so clear I could actually see my computer screen with a "video" clip of a past dream. I would love visit my dreams in the daylight (well, maybe not all of them--this one still creeps me out).

This weekend I’m heading out for a quick 25-hour getaway. I’m meeting a girlfriend in Philly to celebrate one of her big “ends in a zero” birthdays. It’s just girl time…all the fellas are staying put…mine in DC and hers in NY.

My mom’s condo sold. I was a bit surprised how this news hit me over the weekend. I know that Mom will never live on her own again but I think it’s just another chapter of her life that’s now ending. I’m going back to SD in a couple of weeks to help move her things to storage.

My world is changing. I was able to revise my work schedule and instead of working four full days a week I’ll now work five shorter days each week. This will allow me to pick up Bug at preschool and we won't need a full-time nanny/sitter. He’s going to go to school a bit longer this year and then we’ll hang out in the afternoons. Of course, if he had his way we would go to the grocery store every day. He LOVES the child-sized carts and can maneuver them with the speed and skill of a racecar driver.

Random Tuesday Thoughts

Is it just me or are the birds chirping earlier and louder this year? I think they’re awake before the roosters (not that we have any roosters near us…but 4:00 - 4:30 is plenty early to be awakened by birds.)

Bug is obsessed with band-aids these days and at any given time he could have seven from his ankle to his knee, one on every finger and even a few on Winnie-the-Pooh’s ears.

It shouldn’t have been a surprise that I walked around the office for two hours before someone pointed out that I had a Spiderman band-aid stuck on my skirt—on my butt. Catch phrase of the day: “Spiderman, my ASSSSS.” It works in many situations.

When Bug goes to bed, he often asks Donnie or me to lie down with him for a few minutes. His line is, “I want a friend to sleep with me.” It sounds like such a pathetic pickup line each time I hear it.

Right before our convention I always seem to have some bizarre dreams. I’ll spare you the details but it involved: a run-in in NY with gangsters, a parking garage with a winding exit that landed me in Maryland, a 1970s police-ish car that I was a passenger in until my friend jumped out and I had to drive only then remembering I can’t drive a stick shift and seeing a friend with her new haircut that changed her hair to fettuccine. Maybe having birds wake me at 4am isn’t so bad.

Random Tuesday Thoughts

Last week I had a sick child and this week started off with a sick husband. We’re running out of humans in our house…and I’m not in the mood to get sick since I’m traveling on Thursday.

Apparently in addition to sweets I’ve also given up exercising for lent. Sigh…

The Olympics needed to end. By Sunday I was starting to tear up at the Tide commercials. And Bug was starting to hum along to "O Canada."

I have a fear of leaving a restroom with my skirt tucked in my tights. Last week I was thiiiiisssssss close to having it happen...at work...on my way to a meeting. I need to buy more pants.

My high school boyfriend was in my dream last night. He was dating a former co-worker of mine (not clear if he was divorced…but even he would probably tell you that’s not a big deal to him…sigh). Anyway, the three of us were in a restaurant (they were at one booth and I was at another). It was my birthday and THEY celebrated with THREE different desserts on a big platter that had a Happy Birthday message to me written in chocolate. They put two number candles (4 and 2) on the desserts but that's not my age. I fumed in the other booth wanting the desserts. (Did I mention I gave up sweets for lent?) Now that I think about it 42 was HIS high school basketball number--there are some things a girl can't forget. Don’t you love detailed dreams? Anyway, I waited until the coast was clear and I crawled from my booth to theirs and took the crème brulee from their table…hey, it was my birthday.

Random Tuesday Thoughts

Maybe being snowed in since Saturday and shoveling a mountain of snow has affected my sleep/dreams or maybe it's the extra chocolate and wine I've been consuming at night. I often have interesting dreams but last night's dream was a doozy. Donnie left me for Alec Baldwin. Apparently, we lived in a high-rise building (with a hospital on the first floor but that was just a short scene in the dream). Alec was our downstairs neighbor so Donnie moved in with him and I kept our apartment upstairs. Alec, Donnie and I all got along well and it seemed like we may become cozy like Ashton, Demi and Bruce. My apartment was decorated with all kinds of Twilight stuff (I've not read a book or seen a movie so I'm not sure where I grabbed that from in my little head) and I had the Turbo Tax logo hanging on my wall (really, the Turbo Tax logo is how I decorate in my sleep? Good grief.) AND...if anyone is going to leave anyone for someone in my dreams...why didn't Bruce show up and why isn't he mine? (Meanwhile on the other side of the bed: Donnie had a dream we bought a house outside Sacramento.)

So this morning I told Donnie about my dream. A bit later he was wearing a shirt that I like so I commented on it. He said, "Thanks, Alec likes it too." bwahahahaha

Over the weekend I had a dream that I had to wait for Tony Soprano to show up and let him know that someone (his mother) was trying to kill him. It was a ugly scene plus try explaining that you know his mother died but still has a hit out on him. I can't imagine what will be dancing around in my head tonight when I hit the pillow.

Forecast for tonight and tomorrow: between 10 and 20 inches of snow. You know what this means, right? I need to get more wine. My fingers are crossed that we don't lose power.

Sesame Street GANG

Last night I had a dream that I was volunteering at a big gala for our adoption agency (not a wild imagination…our volunteer kick-off meeting is tomorrow night).

The big difference—in my dream the gala was being held at a prison. I was doing some preliminary set up for the event and passing various inmates in the hall. Then I recognized one of the prisoners. There was Mr. Noodle--you know, the guy from Elmo’s World--he put his hand out as though to greet me. Instead, he grabbed my arm HARD and said, “I can kill you any time I want."

Word on the street: FEAR

Number of the day: 20 (to life with no chance of parole)

dream, baby, dream

A couple of nights ago I had a bit of a restless night quiet time...from 2am until after 4am. I was actually kind of happy when Bug cried around 4:20. I grabbed my pillow and blanket and quietly told Donnie, "I'll just sleep in Bug's room." I found out that Bug is quite a chatterbox--full of compliments (Mommy, I like your hair, I like your eyes, I like your shirt, I like your ears...) and gas (phew!) in the wee morning hours.

During the two hours on my own, my mind wandered and I thought about Mama-Face's post on Blog-Ignoramus about dreams. I, for the most part, love my dreams. I usually feel a bit disappointed if I don't remember something from a dream when I wake up.

I had an interesting dream the other night. Here's a bit of background:

Real life: Donnie and I are thinking of leaving the city and moving to a smaller town. There's just something appealing about a smaller area for us. The town is about 65 miles from the city. We've been visiting Small Town for about 18 months looking at houses and just checking out the town. We just found a house that makes us drool (it's an older house and just has a nice feel--not too big but comfortable). ST is appealing for a variety of reasons: direct train route to the city for Donnie, good schools, it has a university in town, I would see about working from home but that probably won't fly so I will most likely quit my job and be with Bug and there's a terrific bakery. It's possible that Donnie can have a slightly varied schedule so that's appealing too. The commute is the big issue so we'll test that out in the coming weeks. We intended to try the commute a few months ago but Bug got sick and since then it just hasn't worked out. Now that we like a house it's a bit higher on our list.

Dream: Donnie and I were renewing our vows at a diner in ST. Our realtor was going to officiate the ceremony. It was very low key with just a few guests. I thought I booked the town hall but for some reason I was told the day of our ceremony that the hall wasn't available. I asked if we could have the reception in the diner so it all worked out.

So does our wedding ceremony represent that I'm ready for a commitment/new beginning in ST? The realtor/officiant sealing the deal?

This morning Bug woke us up at 5:30 (his "I'm awake" time on vacation...yawn). Donnie told me to stay in bed and he would hang out with Bug downstairs (i.e., watching DVDs as quietly as possible). During that time I had a dream that I met up with some of the people whose blogs I follow. Mama-Face, MiMi, Funnyrunner and others got together at the Dairy Queen. Dwayne Johnson (the Rock) was behind us in line and I grabbed his arm and asked him to stick around because I wasn't sure we had enough money on us to pay for our treats. Tough girl, aren't I?
