it's the most wonderful time of the year...

and I'm already feeling pooped. It's December 1. I need to get some energy going...

I'm trying to make the house look festive for HONKA (as Bug says) and Christmas. I go to SD this weekend to visit my mom and I would love to return to a home that looks and feels like the holidays. Not sure that will happen (see missing energy above).

Do you have a real or fake tree? We've usually had real trees but had a small fake tree for a couple of years. Now I'm feeling the need for a full-size tree. I'm leaning toward a fake one just because the real ones can be so expensive year after year and getting a pre-lit artificial tree sounds pretty easy. I figure if I have some greens in the house I'll still get that real tree smell.

My mom fell and broke her pelvic bone a few weeks ago. The other day on the phone she said she was just sitting on the floor of her room and didn't know how she got there. Obviously, she fell. Nothing broken but she did have some bruises. She doesn't understand--or more accurately--doesn't remember that she can't walk on her own. My heart goes out to her. I know it's frustrating for her because she wants to do more and her body is betraying her. I don't expect this to be an easy trip. When I'm visiting her, I'll pick up gifts for the family so we can have a little wrapping party in her room to bring a bit of the Christmas season to her. After all, it's the most wonderful time of the year...

  1. We have an artificial tree. Much easier. You can get pine scented candles etc. to make your home smell just like them. :)

I'm so sorry about your mom. My heart goes out to her. Have a nice time on your visit. xoxo

  3. I have a fake tree for one reason. I like it up by Thanksgiving so I get a whole month out of it. It's way too hard to keep a tree alive and looking good, at least for me.

  4. Im sorry about your mom, hope you can brighten her weekend.

We do fake. I have to buy a new one this year because our other one got ruined when our storage shed had a leak. This year Im going for prelit...so much easier!

  5. Happy Honka! ;)

We always had real trees too but last year we broke down and got fake trees. We needed very specific sizes and decided it would be far less expensive and troublesome to just get fake trees. They look SO real. I love them. :)

I am so sorry to hear about your mom. That is just heartbreaking. My prayers go out to you (and your mom).

  6. Our tree is artificial (sounds SO much better than fake - ha ha) and it's pre-lit. I considered buying a fresh tree this year but couldn't bear the thought of stringing lights. Our tree is PERFECTLY lit, I love that part.

I am so sad about your Mom. A heavy heart will definitely zap your energy. Love her hard and see if you can get a spark back!!! Big hugs to both of you.

  7. I'm so sorry about your mom! I'm praying for her.
Our tree is up and decor out. There are a few more things I'd LIKE to do, but I don't think it's gonna happen...
