Saying Goodbye

I wasn't ready to say goodbye (but when are we really ready?). I knew it would happen and I knew it was coming...I just didn't want expect it to happen NOW. It appears Bug's naps are a thing of the past. sniff sniff

**Edited to add**
In place of naptime this weekend I announced it was "quiet time," which I learned in Bug-speak translated to doing gymnastics in his room and emptying ALL the books from his bookshelf with periodic shouts of "I can't sweep." It's a work in progress (work being the keyword).

  1. Oh NOOOOO! That really is awful. I am so sorry!

We developed a "quiet time" in place of naps. For about an hour every day the kids have to do something quiet and calm in their room. Since they are terrible at deciding for themselves, we let them have 2 books and 1 toy. I spend that hour watching Judge Judy or Oprah, and doing little things that need quiet, send bills, etc . Listen, I need the break or I could blow!

  2. Ok, don't fear. You simply rename it "quiet time" and still put Bug in the room at the same time and allow quiet activity like reading. :)

I did that for years and they never, ever complained.

  3. There's no such thing as end of nap time in our house. The story goes a little something like this..."if mamma ain't napping, ain't nobody happy". The only one that doesn't nap is the teen, she relaxes in bed and watches her tv during nap time.

  5. neither one of my kids were ever really nappers. (horrible isnt it!?) i instituted a "quiet time" with my son and he was pretty good about it, reading, playing toys, etc...my daughter just screams from her room "can i get up now?!?" so i gave up.

  6. HRH napped through age 4 and would almost always fall asleep in the car, given the opportunity. Gremlin stopped at age 2. At which point, I would put untold mileage on my car to get him to sleep for 45 minutes.

Look kid, you can either give up napping and be pleasant or continue napping and be pleasant. Being a pain-in-the-ass, hand grenade with the pin pulled? Not. an. option.

  7. Giggling at "I can't sweep!"
My kids napped for a looong time, in fact my 9 year old still occasionally naps! We are a sleep-loving family.

  10. Hahaha, sorry, but Bug is hilarious - "I can't sweep!"

It was good while it lasted though, right?

  11. Hehe! Sounds like Isabella over in my house--I told her that's it's okay if she's not sleepy--she will just have some peaceful quiet time...{more so for me...}

  12. I am sad for you. We are wondering if our younger one needs to give up her afternoon naps b/c she's been getting up more at night... I don't know if I can handle that!!

  13. We have mandatory quiet time too. It helps if the room is devoid of anything remotely entertaining and that they have to stay in bed and not talk. Voila! About 75% of the time she ends up napping. Don't you miss when they were little and took more than 1 nap and could sleep anywhere?

  14. I remember naively saying I couldn't wait for the day that we no longer had naps so we could actually DO things during the day. Now I realize what an idiot I was.

Quiet time works on occasion for us too.

  15. HA! One of the biggest things I've learned from being a first time Mama with Stella is that I should not clean or pick anything up until after she goes to sleep...and then be completely prepared to do it again after the next nap/bedtime...and again...and again...
